A fine history, in the author's stylized but enjoyable voice

How many histories of this sort will I ultimately read? Dozens, to be sure. Each author has another set of stories and viewpoints, and none have written a definitive account (if such a thing could exist, and I'm sure it cannot). Some will see Galbraith merely as a mid-20th century Keynes-friendly author. But he was a very respectable historian reaching into many eras, and only the latter end of the book deals with the Great Depression and its aftermath. The author has a sort of velvet-gloved humor in many passages, which I enjoy; I can see him smiling as he recounts this or that bit of folly. He is most famous elsewhere, of course, for his work on the '29 crash and Great Depression, worth a look as well.

good read for a vacation or weekend travels.

good read. the author is brilliant, but if you don't know that, you'd think he goes through some topics way too quickly (without justifying his position). very entertaining read - he pokes fun (and holes) in many parts of conventional wisdom around money. the author has a sharp wit. he also takes on Keynes & his theory on creating aggregate demand with gov't debt & spending. likely good/quick read for finance and banking folks, but may be found to be a bit boring for general audience. it's a "background" type of book, and not the type of heavily detailed and footnoted book you'd find from Kindleberger. With this book, the author makes the topics available to understand for just about any interested reader, and it moves along quickly.

Good read, very informative

This is a great discussion of money in all its forms. Econ has never been my strong suit and this book explains many things about money, banking, the Fed, etc. in language that makes it easy to understand. Great historical analysis, well written and with a lot of wry humor. An excellent read and a good reference book.
