This volume demonstrates how the dispensational method of Bible study is the method God approves, and the only one by which the Bible makes sense. It shows the perfect harmony between the changeless principles of God and His changing dispensations. This book points out the distinctions between Prophecy and the Mystery, the kingdom of heaven and the Body of Christ, the ministries of Peter and Paul, etc.

A Dispensationalists Handbook
By Kevin Ball
I have read almost all of Stam's books and Things that Differ is his most important work as far as I'm concerned. No theological system is 100% correct and no one has all the answers but if you have lots of questions that never seem to get answered to your satisfaction I believe this book will leave you with the least amount unanswered. It's an easy read, it's full of verse references and it will answer your questions about subjects I hear people ask every day on the radio like, baptism, tithing, sign gifts, salvation and works/security etc... Give it a shot. It doesn't cost much and even if you wind up thinking Stam is crazy it will make you think and study to prove your own views are correct.

Best Book On Pauline Dispensationalism
By John Grove
This book has been instrumental for years in opening the eyes of believers around the globe to the basic tenets of Mid-Acts dispensationalism and stands as the monumental book on "rightly dividing the word of truth" (II Tim 2:15).

I would also recommend other works by Stam:

1. Acts Dispensationally Considered.

2. The Controversy (now called "Holding Fast the Faithful Word")

3. Paul, His Apostleship and Message

4. Moses and Paul

His collection can be found through the Berean Bible Society

[...]

Caution: These books change lives.

You will finally understand the bible!!!
By Edward Cook
I read this book 25 years ago and have continued to recommend it to those who have been trying to understand the bible. The bible will not be a mystery anymore. It will help anyone understand why some christian speak in tongues, get water baptized, believe they can loose their salvation, believe they are going through the tribulation, etc. and others don't. Can this book do all that? Absolutely!!!!!!!!

Outstanding
By John Collins
I must first of all state that I am not an expert on history. However, I know what I like when I see it, and this is a wonderful book. I should also admit to having a personal interest in this story, as my family claims Conrad Weiser as an ancestor, as well as Iroquois and Delaware descent.

The author is a great writer first and foremost. He has a subtly humorous and cynical style of writing with intelligent interpretations, backed up by plenty of direct quotes and facts. His writing reveals both a sympathy with the native Americans and for the colonists.

What I got out of this book is an appreciation for the social and political sophistication of the Iroquois, the complex relationship between the native Americans and the colonists, and the decency, daring, and desperation of many of the people involved.

It is a pity that the mutual respect which existed between the early colonists and Native Americans unraveled into a one-sided exploitation of the natives by the immigrants. In a large part, it was likely due to the overwhelming numbers of European migrants (and their children), that made the native people seem inconsequential. The inevitable result was that most of the later newcomers to America and their children had little understanding and sympathy for the natives. Respect turned into contempt.

Good history comes with rich detail which allows a wide variety of conclusions to be drawn. One such conclusion is a warning to us now, as we consider the issue of immigration to America today. The native Americans with all their sophistication of culture, were completely overwhelmed, marginalized, and exploited by immigrants. Their once beautiful land has been scarred and blighted by what we call development. What is to prevent the same thing happening to us and our land, by the new waves of immigrants, legal and otherwise ?

We shouldn't just treat history as a form of intellectual entertainment. Our duty is to use the understanding we gain about human behavior, for the betterment of the lives of our own children.

Excellent book on R&B rhythms for guitar
By Cisco
Mr. Ganapes does it again with another great book for guitar.
There are excellent examples on playing the R&B guitar sounds we all heard done on recorded music of the past.
There is even a chapter on how Jimi Hendrix early chitlin circuit r&b band days listening to other players of that day i.e. Curtis Mayfield or his buddy Cornel Dupree and others influenced later his style of playing such recordings of "Angel" or "Little Wing". But there are a vast range of r&b styles that are taught here for guitar in this book.
It's nice to have a book to teach you this great music on guitar with explanations, that is, a little guitar theory of how this music is put together on guitar...the nuts & bolts to this sound of music on guitar. The cd recording is well done also.
Highly recommended!

Introduction

This is not the first book ever written that concerns itself with the anatomical structures that are involved in exercise, nor is it intended to be the final word. It is not meant to be an exhaustive exploration of exercise vocabulary either. This book takes a unique and comprehensive stance on the anatomy of exercise, useful to laymen and professional alike.

Predominately, books that have included exercises with anatomical representations, whether or not they included instructions for performing the exercises, were targeted at two groups of readers: body builders and scientists. What I've tried to do with this book is to make this kind of information accessible and useful to anyone who exercises, including bodybuilders and scientists. To that end, this book includes exercise types typically overlooked in similar works, such as aerobic activities, stretches, and stability work. Moreover, this book takes into consideration the ways in which the body's systems depend on one another to generate movement.

In other texts of this nature, exercises have for the most part been depicted as using a specific muscle group because the book was intended to show how to develop size or strength in that particular muscle or group. Unfortunately, what often doesn't get mentioned is how the adjacent muscles and structures, as well as some that are not directly or obviously involved, contribute to the exercises and subsequent improvement. Hip and spine position, for instance, contribute to almost every major exercise and are integral not only to the proper biomechanics of a given movement, but the subsequent improvement of the targeted muscle.

For each exercise, the muscles indicated in the illustrations are identified as the ones that are primarily involved in the movement, whether they are active or stabilizing. Active or primary muscles are defined as those that contract to move a structure, while stabilizing muscles are defined as those that either co-contract, or, by their activation, stabilize either the primary or a secondary structure to allow movement. In a push-up, for instance, the primary active muscles act to extend the elbow and adduct the humerus (upper arm) at the shoulder joint. Primary stabilizers act to ensure that the elbow and shoulder joints remain steady and track properly; however, without the contraction of the deep spinal and pelvic musculature, as well as anterior leg musculature that contract to keep those joints stable and allow the ankle joint to act as a fulcrum, the movement is not possible.

The contribution of the secondary stabilizers varies in degree, depending on the movement. For example, in a barbell curl, since the weight is in front of the body and is translated in a curvilinear fashion that creates a greater forward lever and subsequent need for stabilization as it moves upward, the back and hip muscles become more relevant with regard to movement contribution. If the movement could simply not be performed without the contribution of these muscles, they were included.

The point here is to make the reader aware that during any given movement, some muscles that may not play a major role in the actual execution may still be necessary contributors for proper biomechanics and form while the exercise is being performed. The basic method I used to determine this was to ask whether or not the movement could be performed if the secondary stabilizers were injured, but readers should be aware that the specifics are open to some debate.

There is an enormous amount of variation that can be made to these exercises, since for any one single exercise there are perhaps four or five different ways to alter the stimulus (by changing the grip, foot position, altering the speed of the movement, and so forth). I have included some of these variations for many of the exercises.

This book contains the basic exercise vocabulary that any program can, and should, be built around, whether you are an elite athlete, a raw beginner, or are suffering from an injury. The specific exercises to use as well as intensity (the weight used, when relevant), volume (number of sets and repetitions), duration (time per session), and frequency (sessions per week) will all be determined by your own specific capacities and goals. The best and most effective way to determine these things is to consult a professional in the fitness/wellness/strength training profession for a program and prescription that suits your unique abilities and objectives.

The text is laid out in a structure that mimics the progression of a typical workout. While the text encompasses all of the elements pursuant to a comprehensive workout, it is not intended to be prescriptive in any way. The best use of this book is as a reference manual for understanding both positioning and muscular involvement for the included exercises, and should stimulate some thought, when performing a given exercise, about how the rest of your body plays a part in any particular movement.

By curious mind
I love the format these books have and that they raise awareness of the muscle groups I should be focusing on during any given exercise. I purchased a number of books in this series, and I find I haven't used this one as much as the others. Perhaps it is because the books do have overlap, but I also find the exercises in this book use more props I don't have, balance balls, steps, benches, etc. I also don't care for the female illustrations. Overall, I feel the other books in the series have more flexibility in their application, give just as much useful insight, and have illustrations that do the job without being unnecessarily graphic.

By Amazon Customer
Afrer studying for my own personal trainer certification I don't think this is that great of a book. Using my garage for a gym means I don't have access to some of the equipment in this book. The muscle actions and stabilizers is great and the variants are nice. I think this could have been more if the author had focused on body weight and free weight and leaving the machines as variants.

Amazon.com Review
Turner, corporate mercenary, wakes in a reconstructed body, a beautiful woman by his side. Then Hosaka Corporation reactivates him for a mission more dangerous than the one he's recovering from: Maas-Neotek's chief of R&D is defecting. Turner is the one assigned to get him out intact, along with the biochip he's perfected. But this proves to be of supreme interest to certain other parties--some of whom aren't remotely human.

Bobby Newmark is entirely human: a rustbelt data-hustler totally unprepared for what comes his way when the defection triggers war in cyberspace. With voodoo on the Net and a price on his head, Newmark thinks he's only trying to get out alive. A stylish, streetsmart, frighteningly probable parable of the future and sequel to Neuromancer

From Publishers Weekly
Gibson's first novel, Neuromancer, was greeted with hosannas and showered with awards. This second book, set in the same universe, again offers a faddish, glitzy surface not unlike that of Miami Vice. Gibson's central image is the shadow boxes constructed by the artist Joseph Cornell, collections of seemingly unrelated objects whose juxtaposition creates a new impression. In the same fashion, the novel has three protagonists, each of whom is putting together jigsaw clues in pursuit of his separate goal. The corporate headhunter, the art dealer and the computer hacker all find themselves being manipulatedjust as the author contrives to have their paths converge. This book is less appealing and less verbally skillful than Gibson's first novel, dense and dour as that was, but readers who liked that one will want to see this as well.

Kindle edition is typically worthless trash & ruins the story, buy an actual book instead
By Morgan P. Williams
As per usual, half the punctuation is missing because of crappy OCR, but even worse, every single one of the full line breaks which indicate a scene change are systematically removed. So you read a line of dialogue and then the very next line is being said hours later, or in a different frame of reference, etc., and doesn't make sense until you think about it a minute and realize that there used to be a visual indication of the frame shift which has been removed because Amazon churns out shoddy product and charges full price for it.

Really cool at Zero degrees...
By JTR
Great book, three great story lines that "kind of" merge in one all too short denouement that may leave some readers panting for more and more! Gibson had little space to cram his ending into, but he managed it adequately. Overall, a really fun book to read; really looking forward to Mona Lisa Overdrive to complete the trilogy, and then it's on to the other series and novels.

Fun, in a grim sort of way
By Chris Bickford
Gibson takes this book and experiments.
Three story lines unfold across the pages.
Each character sees things differently, and you can see the differences. Is Conroy a simple agent with his thatch of white hair, or a dude with the meanest mouth you ever saw? Both.
Does this book wander off into some seriously weird voodoo? You bet.
Is it still stylish in that 80s noir sort of way, with yuppies expanding to the ultimate form, Japanese ruling over all with mega-corporations, and the poor just plain poor. You bet.
There's even hot cyberdecks, drugs and rogue biotechnology, for the cyberpunk purist.
The later exercises of Gibson take the same form, and repeat to triteness. This book, being an experiment, is still fresh and interesting.
If it blows you away, keep reading Gibson. If it's not exactly thrilling, there are many other authors to sample. But give it a read and see what you think. The time will be well spent.

Death Angels: A Chief Inspector Erik Winter Novel (Chief Inspector Erik Winter Novels), by Ake Edwardson

The debut thriller in the internationally acclaimed series? available for the first time in the United States

A long-time number one bestseller in his native Sweden, ke Edwardson?s profile was conspicuously raised when his novel Frozen Tracks was chosen as a finalist for a 2008 Los Angeles Times Book Prize. Until now, however, the novel that launched Edwardson?s critically acclaimed Erik Winter series has never been available in the United States. With a new series translator who fully captures Edwardson?s signature atmospheric style, Death Angels is America?s introduction to Sweden?s youngest Chief Inspector as he teams up with Scotland Yard to solve the mysterious parallel killings of young British and Swedish tourists. Richly evocative of mid-nineties South London and Gothenburg, Sweden, Death Angels is a brilliant opening to a mesmerizing series that has become a phenomenon in international crime fiction.

From Publishers Weekly
Edwardson's middling fourth police procedural to be made available in the U.S. (after 2007's Frozen Tracks) lacks the sophisticated plot and characters that mark the work of such other Swedish crime authors as Helene Tursten and Stieg Larsson. Chief Insp. Erik Winter joins forces with his British counterparts after a series of brutal murders of young men in London and his own city of Gothenburg. The killer, dubbed Hitchcock, appears to have filmed the butchery, as evidenced by traces of a tripod stand in the victims' blood. The trail naturally leads into the seamy world of snuff films, but the big break comes from a burglar who noticed some blood-stained clothing in an apartment he broke into. The smooth translation is perhaps the book's best feature. Edwardson has won the Swedish Academy of Crime Writers' Award three times. (Sept. 29)

An icy dance with death
By Cosmic Reader
This crime story, which in one sense could be read as a formulaic `thrilla,' shows uncommon insight into the psychology of a confident, thirty-something homicide detective at the terrifying brink of self-awareness. Erik Winter is the hero of a popular series of Swedish crime novels by ke Edwardson that are not yet very well-known in the U.S.

"Death Angels" is the first book in the Erik Winter series, although two of the subsequent books were previously published in English, but with a different translator. If you want to read the series chronologically, "Death Angels" is the place to start. And if the rest of the books are as compelling as this one, bring `em on.

The plot of "Death Angels" spins around some grotesque murders of teenage boys that are being committed in both Sweden and London. It makes for some intriguing give and take among investigators in both cities who decide to pool their resources. You're into the first murder right away, and I do mean right in the middle of it. Did I mention I couldn't do Winter's job?

One of the things I liked best about the book was Edwardson's depiction of the toll on the living that the homicide grind takes, not just on the families of the victims, but on the men and women who are working the case. The way they talk to each other, the camaraderie, the shorthand, the dark humor and odd bravado, all ring true. You could slap this up on a movie screen just as it is.

I liked Erik Winter right away. This detective is not one of those gnarled characters with a wise-acre attitude and hot temper. He's coolly elegant, keenly able, admired and envied by his colleagues in homicide. But he is exceptionally young to be their boss, and he's a complete enigma to them.

Turns out Winter is also an enigma to himself and to his family, which makes him an excellent character for Edwardson to build a string of crime novels on. How can you not like a guy who says of soccer, "I could have been something, but I wasn't injured often enough." Or, my absolute favorite, when Winter passes by his sister's house, noticing the lights aren't on, and says to himself, "Nobody's home, you can call tonight." For somebody who works that hard to keep his distance from people who want to get inside his head, he turns out to have terrific intuition for drilling right into the brains of criminals.

The supporting characters are great. One bizarre twist involves a young detective, about to become a father, who gets thrust into the world of illicit porn to track down some clues, and you get a real sense of the destabilizing threat that this kind of work involves, and how weird and sometimes touching the coping mechanisms can get to be. I don't want to give away any more of it, but Edwardson does his homework when it comes to character development. The case painfully affects Winter, too, and with good reason.

I got caught up right away in the icy-clear language of the saga. Everything that had to do with Swedish half-darkness and sunlight and the penetration of the cold and the intense awareness of any hint of spring -- all that is wonderfully evocative in tone. I could feel Scandinavia in my bones. And music's really important to the story, both indie rock and jazz. You'll pick up a tip or two.

At last... the real Detective Winter!
By CarNut
For those of us given peeks into this amazing writer's character of Detective Winter before, here, at long last (I don't read Sewdish, German or other languages!!!)is the opening story and it does not disappoint, not one line, not one character. It's a thrill ride, intelligent, surprising and, with plenty of twists, keeps you on the edge of your seat.
I won't spoil it for you with a precis - just get this and ENJOY!
Mankell watch out, there's someone better (or at least as compelling!).

Not my favorite
By wonder-d
Being a fan of Henning Mankell, I was excited to read this author's work, especially because he's been compared favorably to Mankell. But this book just didn't hold up for me. I found the character of Erik Winter to be rather stilted and mannered, and I was much more intrigued by Steve Macdonald, the police officer in London. This wasn't a terrible book, but the characters are a little too cardboard cutout for me, the mood is not as atmospheric or as nuanced as I like, and the plot twists were not that numerous and were somewhat predictable. I find the work by the Icelandic author Arnaldur Indridason to be far preferable.

Mr. Suicide, by Nicole Cushing

Winner of the 2015 Bram Stoker Award for Superior Achievement in a First Novel Like everyone else in the world, you've wanted to do things people say you shouldn't do.

How many times in your life have you wanted to slap someone? Really, literally strike them? You can't even begin to count the times. Hundreds. Thousands. You're not exaggerating. You're not engaging in... whatchamacallit? Hyperbole? You're not engaging in hyperbole.

Maybe the impulse flashed through your brain for only a moment, like lightning, when someone tried to skip ahead of you in line at the cafeteria. Hell, at more than one point in your life you've wanted to kill someone; really, literally kill someone. That's not just an expression. Not hyperbole. Then it was gone and replaced by the civilized thought: You can't do that. Not out in public.

But you've had the thought...

From Shirley Jackson Award-nominated author Nicole Cushing comes Mr. Suicide, a novel of the Great Dark Mouth.

Inventive, smarts, and somewhat squishy-gushy
By Adam Cesare
Wow. Many reviewers have noted that this is an "extreme" horror novel, but I'm not sure that's 100% accurate. Cushing's book mixes up a bunch of different horror subgenres and may start out looking like it's going to go in a "confessions of a serial killer" direction, but actually ends up places that are weirder, semi-cosmic and...surprisingly funny. A must.

As horrific as horror gets...
By Nick Cato
Cushing's debut novel deals with a misfit 13 year old boy. Two of his older siblings have left home but one slightly off-balanced older brother remains. His mother wears the pants and his father follows her lead. At school he is made fun of and ostracized. And he knows he's different, especially when he starts to become attracted to pictures of amuptees...

And then he begins to hear a voice in his head claiming to be someone named Mr. Suicide. He gives countless reasons why our young teenager should kill himself, and our protagonist contemplates first blinding himself with an ice pick and then begins to read labels on households poisons. It seems the possibilities of ending it all are endless.

But when he turns 18, he leaves home and meets a cosmic force (or being) known as "The Great Dark Mouth" who claims he/she/it is able to annihilate him, although it will take three intense steps to do so. With the thought he can become unborn and erased from humanity, our now 18 year old teenager dives head-first into a taboo-crushing, psychological nightmare that will test the limits of your psyche.

MR. SUICIDE is an absolutely brutal, horrifying read, and Cushing's tale does so without relying on the splatter that's so prevalent among extreme horror novels. More noteable than that, especially in light of this being her debut novel, is Cushing's use of a second person viewpoint. Here it enhances the overall sense of dread and, even when things start to head into truly strange territory, we're continually forced to experience some of the darkest situations a human being can fall into.

I've been enjoying Cushing's shorter work for a while now, and MR. SUICIDE has placed her on my must read author's list. This is horror fiction that's fresh, disturbing, and crafted to freak you out.

And it does.

I can't recommend this book enough. One of the best I've read this year.
By Frank Errington
Review copy

Nicole Cushing is a Shirley Jackson Award finalist who's written a number of stand-alone novellas and dozens of short stories. Nicole has been referred to as the literary equivalent of the love child between Jack Ketchum and Poppy Z. Bright. Raised in rural Maryland and now living in southern Indiana, Nicole counts master storyteller Edgar Allen Poe as having had a big influence on her as a writer.

In recent weeks, I'd noticed a bit of a buzz about her debut novel and knew I had to check it out. I'm so glad I did. When I opened the book I right away noticed some very positive blurbs from authors I respect a great deal, including Ray Garton and the aforementioned Jack Ketchum.

After finishing Mr. Suicide, it's difficult to believe this is her first published novel. The kind words from so many of her contemporaries are certainly not mere hyperbole. Nicole Cushing delivers the goods in a compelling story told completely in the second person. A bit of an unusual style, but it works so well in this case as we hear the story of a boy who's had thoughts of suicide from the time he was ten until he leaves home at eighteen, and beyond.

Growing up in a mentally abusive family, with no real friends, bullied by kids at school, it's no wonder he's the way he is. Despite all this, the boy manages to deny Mr. Suicide over the years, until his brother introduces him to a low-budget pornographic magazine called Perfect Monsters. The cover features a geriatric, female amputee, naked, heavily wrinkled and doing unspeakable things with her detached artificial leg. That's when things take a marked turn, as Mr. Suicide takes a backseat to a new entity, Great Dark Mouth, who offers something more.

The protagonist in the story is definitely depraved, there are some very disturbing images here, but it's all right at home, in the context of the tale. Filled with richly demented and deformed characters, Mr. Suicide is dark storytelling at it's finest. Just when I thought it couldn't get any better (worse), it does. I loved the use of the Looney Tunes and other cartoon character voices at the end of the book.

By the way, kudos to Zack Mccain for his stunning artwork on the cover.

Mr. Suicide is available in both paperback and e-book formats from Word Horde Publishers.

I can't recommend this book enough. One of the best I've read this year.
